This week I’ve wrapped up a book I’ve been reading for about a month, as well as finished reading two more. I’ve started an exciting new book and gone back to a book I left on hold. Read on to get a roundup for the week and find out what I’m reading!
Tuesday I posted my review for The Calculating Stars, which was almost exactly how I expected it would be, in all the right ways! Here’s the review if you haven’t caught it.
Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to get to any more reviews, because I finished two books on Thursday! I finally crossed off The Unbroken, and while I’m working on that review, I unfortunately won’t be able to post it until closer to the release date, which is in a month’s time. I was mixed on the book, but if you like troubled characters and unflinching tales of the brutality of colonialism, it’s definitely worth a look.
The second book I finished was The Magic of Recluse, and I was mixed on this one also, for different reasons. I’m going to be trying a new review format for my Throwback reviews – look out for that in the next few days.
I was recently approved for an ARC of Birds of Paradise by Oliver K. Langmead, and I started reading it straight after finishing the previous two books (okay, very slightly before – I couldn’t wait!). I just finished it today, and I think this book is going to be generating a lot of buzz closer to its release. It shares a lot of DNA with American Gods, by way of the book of Genesis – Adam in the present day gathering parts of the garden of Eden. I look forward to reviewing this one, which in this case I’ll probably be able to get up next week.
I’ve also picked back up Three Parts Dead by Max Gladstone, a novel I started reading in either November or December last year, but put down due to mood reading reasons. I am enjoying it, and will hopefully be able to finish it this time!
Look forward to my Monthly Reading Retrospective tomorrow, where I look at all the goals I set at the beginning of the year, and how I’m doing at meeting them.
And now, my TBR shortlist! From last week’s shortlist, I have picked up nothing! My streak is unfortunately over, but I think it’s likely I’ll pick at least one book up from my TBR shortlist this week.

Here’s a link to my last Weekly Roundup, if you wish to compare the two. There’s a few books that have never been that high on my TBR shortlist, including the well loved Robin Hobb, who I’d avoided in the past. My tastes have changed since then, and too many people that recommend good books love this series, so I am keen to give her stuff a go.
Let me know if there’s anything there you’d recommend!
