This week I’ve not finished a single book. However I’ve posted three reviews, including one of a new favourite! Read on to get a roundup for the week and find out what I’m reading!
On Monday I posted a double review of two sequels I’ve read recently, Shadowblack by Sebastian de Castell & Beneath the Sugar Sky by Seanan McGuire. You can find that here.
Then on Thursday I continued my Throwback book Review series with a review of Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb. I’m looking forward to continue that series in the near future. Here’s the review.
So what have I been reading this week? If you saw last week’s roundup post, you’ll know I started A Desolation Called Peace by Arkady Martine. It’s an excellent book so far, but one that requires from me a focus that I can’t always give. That’s why I’ve also started reading The Shadow of the Gods by John Gwynne. I barreled through Gwynne’s Faithful and the Fallen series last year, and his new series is even easier to pick up, with fast paced brutal action that is a definite contrast to the more thinky Texicalaan books (for the record, I like both styles). I’m less far through this book, as my focus is on A Desolation Called Peace. I’m hoping to finish Martine’s book in the next couple of days with a review to come after next week. You’ll have to wait a while for a review of Gwynne’s book most likely, as the publisher normally has a within two weeks before release rule for e-arc reviews.
Talking of reviews, next week I have two lined up! Three Parts Dead by Max Gladstone and The Unbroken by C.L. Clark will both be getting reviews from me next week, Monday and Thursday respectively, so look out for those.
One other thing I’ve been reading this week are some short stories from the collection The Hidden Girl and Other Stories by Ken Liu. I started the collection a month or so back, but put it on hold because the first two stories didn’t impress me much. I’m glad I’ve kept with it, because the next two are great, and the fifth story looks promising too. Short story collections can take me a while to read, because I tend to dip in and out while reading novels – but my desire to read them wavers a lot. I wouldn’t expect a review of this collection any time soon.
And now, my TBR shortlist! From last week’s shortlist, I picked The Shadow of the Gods.

Here’s a link to my last Weekly Roundup, if you wish to compare the two. From the Farseer trilogy, it is the second book, Royal Assassin, that I’ll be picking up next, and from Seed to Harvest, I’d be picking up Clay’s Ark. The coverless book on the bottom row is Stronghold by Kesha Bakunin, an intriguing new ARC.
Let me know if there’s anything there you’d recommend!
