Weekly Roundup

This week I’ve not actually done all that much reading! Personal circumstances have kept me busy – this will probably continue for it least another week, so get ready for some sparse content!

This Week’s Posts:

Thursday: Book Review: The Fall of Babel

This Week’s Reading:

This week I started reading Blood of the Mantis by Adrian Tchaikovsky, the third book in the Shadows of the Apt series. Not very far through, but it’s good so far.

I also read some more from Spoils of War, the first Tales of the Apt collection of short stories, set in the same world as Shadows of the Apt. It’s great to get some more context on past events, and most of the stories stand alone at solid narratives by themselves.

I’ve also started reading my first SPFBO finalist of the year (other than Reign and Ruin, which was the finalist we chose for The Fantasy Inn). Not much progress because of the aforementioned personal circumstances though.

The Slow Read Through The Big Book Of Modern Fantasy

In which I read and review at least one short story a week from The Big Book of Modern Fantasy, edited by Ann and Jeff VanderMeer.

For the first time since I started doing this a few months ago, I have not managed to get to any short stories from the book. I’m not sure if I’ll manage to next week either, as my priorities are rather occupied. I’ll try and make up for it when I can!

Movie/TV Thoughts:

Nothing this week. Next week, Eternals, and possibly Squid Game and The Harder They Fall.

Next Week’s Posts:

Next week I’ll post my review for Empire in Black and Gold by Adrian Tchaicovsky.

Next Week’s TBR Shortlist (Not including SPFBO books):

This week I picked up Blood of the Mantis by Adrian Tchaikovsky from the top row of my TBR shortlist.

Here’s a link to my last Weekly Roundup, if you wish to compare the two. The book in the bottom row with a blank cover is an arc of The Bone Shard Emperor by Andrea Stewart. Pretty much no chance of me getting to any of these next week, as I’m going to be very busy!

As usual, let me know if there’s anything there you’d recommend!

That’s a strong damn shortlist but, since you’re already at 1%, maybe the Curse of Chalion?

I think 1% might just be the first page 😅 after I opened it once to have a little look. I really do need to get to it though.
