Retrospective: Books That Surprised Me

Hello blog, it’s been a while. I’ve been neglecting any updates due to new phases in my children’s sleeping habits making it too difficult for me to reliably write and stay sane concurrently. It’s made me less keen to update this thing unfortunately.

However, I thought I’d try my hand at a little retrospective on the year so far with some books that surprised me. I’ve read probably more books this year than any other year of my life by far, and my reading tastes are more diverse than ever before, so there’s been plenty of opportunities for me to be surprised, especially when I’ve had a chance to form any opinions on many of those books before reading them.

Top Ten Favourite Series (2020)

Lists! Since I’m writing a blog that may conceivably contain book reviews at some point, why not write some lists?

As a massive fan of speculative fiction, this list will exclusively hold series in that genre. There are some series where I’ve recently been incredibly impressed by the first title – but have not had a chance to read more yet. These series will not go on the list – I should probably make a Top Ten Favourite Series Where I’ve Only Read The First Book list. I can think of quite a few that could make it.

This list is in order of least to most favourite, but really I love all these series, and any could move above the others if my feelings change. And there are so many other series and books that I really enjoy too! These are, for me, the best and most enjoyable.
